Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kirkland & Ellis.
Legal Assistant
First, there was a recruiter call to get the ball rolling. Then, a phone screening happened where I was asked to mention which practice group I was most interested in. The interview was mostly behavioral questions, like asking about teamwork and how I handled setbacks.
- Could you share an experience of working collaboratively within a team?
- Describe a situation where you faced a significant setback.
Paralegal
The interview started with a 20-minute phone screener with a recruiter. After that, there were supposed to be 1-2 formal interviews with attorneys. Unfortunately, I was rejected after the screening interview, which is fine, but I was ghosted after the recruiter explicitly told me I had moved on. The communication wasn't great because the screener was rescheduled the day of and my follow-ups went unanswered.
- Can you describe a situation where you had to manage multiple tasks simultaneously?
Junior Paralegal
It was positive - a few behavioral questions and why I’m interested in working there. They also asked how I function in a team environment and in a fast-paced work environment. The interview began with behavioral questions and then shifted to how I handle certain scenarios and then why I am passionate about the legal field.
- How do you handle juggling multiple tasks simultaneously?
- How do you manage multiple assignments at once?
