First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Kinder Morgan.
Operations Supervisor
I applied on a Thursday and got an email Saturday to schedule an in-person interview for the next Tuesday. When I went in, there were 3 Ops people and 2 HR people on video. We started with general background and resume review, then moved into 11 behavioral questions. The questions were a bit oddly phrased, but the interviewers helped clarify some of the wording. I felt prepared for behavioral questions, so it wasn't too tough. After the panel, I had a one-on-one facility tour with an Ops person, driving around and chatting casually, discussing things not suitable for HR. This chat felt great and confirmed my suitability for the role. I then went back inside with 2 Ops people to ask my remaining questions. It ended with handshakes and my departure. I felt it was my best interview ever and was very confident I'd get the job. Surprisingly, I received a rejection email 8 days later.

Contract Administrator
You'll start with a phone screen, about 30 minutes long, with some typical interview questions. If they like you, the next interview is about an hour, depending on how long you talk and your questions. The first half hour is usually standard interview questions from a panel of three people. Then, you get to ask them questions. It's a pretty friendly and welcoming process overall.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain why you're a suitable candidate for this role?
- Could you tell me about your communication style?
- How do you evaluate how well your communication works?
Pipeline Scheduler
There were 2 rounds of interviews. The first was with upper management, and the second was with peers/the team. It seemed like a good environment and a nice place to work. Everyone was very pleasant and had varying backgrounds (not all oil/gas). I really had no complaints with the interview process. They even created a video explaining what is otherwise a very niche type of job. So kudos to management for doing that.

Internal Auditor
The interview process was pretty simple and easy. The day after applying, I got an email to schedule a call with a manager for the next day. It was a quick screening interview where the manager asked some behavioral and probing questions to get to know me. Two days later, the manager emailed me inviting me to a Microsoft Teams interview with them and two directors, scheduled for 4 days later. It was about an hour long and had a lot of behavioral and skill-based questions, mostly behavioral. It was relaxed but professional, with pointed questions that required me to elaborate. They also asked follow-up questions based on my responses. Two days after that, I was asked for more info, and then the manager extended an offer. The whole thing from applying to offer took only 10 days. Overall, Kinder Morgan has a really efficient interview process, especially for the Internal Audit group.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Describe a situation where you had to handle an underperforming team member. What actions did you take?
- How would you convince a manager to adopt your newly developed controls over the existing ones if they were resistant?
