I had a few interviews before they gave me the offer. First, I spoke with the hiring manager. Then, I interviewed with the hiring manager again, plus a team member and a peer. After that, I had interviews with the HR manager and a senior technical recruiter.

The interview process involved an initial phone call followed by an in-person meeting at the office on 5/20/25. During the second interview, I was verbally offered the position with a start date of 6/16/25. After two weeks without a written offer, I contacted my future manager, who confirmed the verbal offer and stated that written offers and benefits are only provided on the first day of employment. They required a start date within 5 days, which wouldn't allow me to give my current employer a two-week notice. They conducted a background check and credit pull, which I had approved. Subsequently, I was informed that if I couldn't start by 6/19/25, I would need to restart the entire interview process and meet with the new Regional Vice President. I agreed to this. Then, I was told they needed to perform another background check and credit pull, even though they already had my information from two weeks prior. They cited this as their policy. I expressed that this was unprofessional and withdrew my interest in the position.

The interview started with a 30-minute screening phone call that was professional and pleasant. It covered the basics but allowed for discussion about my professional background and time for questions. Then, I had a more in-depth conversation with the hiring manager about my experience and what made me stand out. I got good insights into Kemper, the business, and its challenges, and the hiring manager was transparent. I also had separate meetings with business heads, colleagues, and direct reports. Communication and follow-up regarding timing and the process were good. It felt like a thorough process, offering many opportunities to learn, ask questions, and make an informed decision.

I interviewed with HR on 12/20 and then after the holidays, I had a second interview on 1/5 with all the managers. It was really nice because they all had great personalities and made me feel comfortable, which definitely helped ease the interview process. They asked about my background, but it was mostly just getting to know me. They mentioned the selection process would take a while, but I actually got my offer on 1/6 and accepted it. I was so happy because I really needed a career change and this job at Kemper was exactly what I was hoping for. The benefits are incredible and not too expensive, I'm really excited!
