It was a standard interview process. I felt the process was inappropriate for the job level. It included a phone screen interview with HR and the Hiring Manager, followed by a half-day of in-person interviews with the team.

I got this interview by cold emailing the Senior VP of Actuarial with my resume. He then sent my info to HR, who called me for a phone interview and then set up an in-person interview. Unitrin didn't cover travel costs even though I lived far away, and they didn't offer relocation assistance with the offer. The HR phone interview was pretty standard. My HR contact said the dress code was business casual for the live interview, but people were wearing t-shirts and shorts. The live interview was a 3-person panel with the Director of Actuarial, a Senior Actuary, and an Actuarial Analyst. It was my first panel interview, but it went well, and the Director did most of the talking. The panel interview lasted about 2 hours. The 1:1 interview with the Senior VP was much shorter. A couple days after the interviews, HR emailed me a link to a skills test, which was easy and I Googled anything I didn't know. HR called a little over two weeks later with an offer that was lower than expected for an entry-level actuarial analyst with 2.5 exams. I only had the weekend to consider the offer, which felt rushed. They wouldn't give me more time even though I had other interviews pending, so I accepted it the following Monday. I didn't negotiate because I didn't want to risk losing the offer. The offer also came with no relocation assistance or signing bonus.

I met with HR. The job posting specifically asked for P&C experience. During the HR call, they expressed concern about my lack of auto insurance experience. I was rejected twice, two weeks later. Other insurers didn't have this problem, and I found a job fast (not at Kemper).
