I got an email for a phone screening not too long ago. The HR person was really condescending, it felt more like an interrogation than a conversation about my qualifications for the job. Usually, in phone interviews, they give you background info and the job description, which I was ready for. But this whole interview was just her passive-aggressively scolding me for wanting to leave my current job. At one point, she cut me off and asked straight up, "what are your salary expectations?" It was a weird question for a screening, but I answered. She literally laughed and said, "you have no experience, that pay is for more qualified candidates. maybe if you had 3 years under your belt, but you would start at this salary and I'm sure that's not what your looking for." It really seemed like she didn't want me to get the job from the start. If this is how Kemper employees are, I'm out.

The interview itself was a good experience, but the follow-up was not great. I reached out multiple times to the recruiter and the interview panel but never got any feedback or formal communication about the outcome. I know not everyone gets the job, but a response would have been nice. The lack of follow-up really makes the candidate experience and communication process look bad.

The interview process included questions about how work is organized and tracked, the speed of follow-ups, liability questions, and monthly claims count. They also asked about salary expectations. A key point mentioned was the high claim volume since 2020 and the struggle to keep up, emphasizing the need to ask about daily and monthly claim volume per adjuster.
