First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at James Hardie Building Products.
Engineer
First, I talked to the hiring manager, then an engineer, and finally had an onsite panel interview. It was pretty chill, everyone was nice, and they covered travel and food. Afterward, they showed me around the facility and I had lunch with other EDPs.

Manufacturing Engineer
HR was super nice, but then it was all engineers. The interviews were totally technical. Had 4 interviews: first with HR over the phone, then online with managers, then a face-to-face panel with department leads, and finally a panel with directors. Also had to do online aptitude and psych tests. Made it through the first 3 interviews fine, but the position got pulled because of budget issues.
- Can you explain non-linear analysis FEA?
Human Resources
The interview process involves many people before getting to the hiring manager. It would be better if the interview team asked different questions rather than repeating them. Too many people in the interview process is not productive. Using behavioral based interviewing would improve confidence and accuracy in candidate selection. Great company and people, but the interview process needs improvement.
- What makes you interested in working at JH?
Account Manager
I applied and got a recommendation from someone who works there. I had a first phone interview with a recruiter in Chicago and it went really well. They told me what the next steps were and that they were really eager to hire someone within 3 weeks, which seemed fast but I was excited to hear I'd be moving on to another phone interview with the hiring manager. But that call never happened. The job was open for a few more weeks and then I finally got an email from the recruiter saying they were going with other candidates. My experience is like what others have said too – you're told you're moving on, then you don't hear anything for weeks.
