The interview process for James Hardie was hands down the worst job seeking experience I've ever had. It involved an unbelievable amount of hoops to jump through. I had approximately 5-6 phone interviews, a face-to-face interview about 70 miles from my home, an intelligence test, a personality test, and several interviews in Chicago with some of the most unprofessional and unattractive people I had ever seen. They were wearing dirty jeans, t-shirts, and chewing tobacco while interviewing me. I was well overqualified for the position since it was entry-level and I had about 3 years of successful sales experience prior, plus a BS degree from a highly-rated business school. I passed all their 'old school' tests, but got nothing. No job offer. They were very vague about the reasons, and I had to contact 4 different people to get an answer. Applicant BEWARE! Very misleading company, very unprofessional, a major waste of 3-4 weeks.

The whole thing took about 4 months from the first call to the offer. First, I had a phone screening with the hiring manager, just a chat to go over my background and check my critical thinking and organizational skills. Then, I took an IQ test, which wasn't too hard but made you think, since the job involves reading and reacting to numbers. The first in-person interview was with the hiring manager and a sales team member; it was pretty standard, going over my resume and answering some critical thinking questions. For the second and last interview, I met with two managers from other markets. They mostly had me review my resume and asked about me and what I want in a company. During all this, I got to ask questions and they were honest so I could decide if it was right for me.
