First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Guggenheim Partners.
Associate
It was a good interview process overall. The people I met seemed nice. The hours are demanding though. They are looking for people with a strong background in technical analysis for their current projects. The Director was very smart and the VP seemed particularly interested in overseas markets.
- What are your thoughts on how the current geopolitical climate will impact oil markets in the next year to year and a half?
Analyst
I would avoid this company. I had an interview with a senior person and they were the rudest interviewer I've ever encountered. They would openly raise their voice and call me stupid, among other things. The questions themselves were pretty easy, but dealing with them was very difficult.
- What is your motivation for seeking this position?
Restructuring Analyst
The interview process was mainly technical, but there were also some behavioral interviews with the MDs, who were really great. It mostly covered standard restructuring technical topics, with a few questions about the market. I'd suggest being ready to discuss a deal you know well, and also to explain what makes this group stand out from other RX groups. Knowing a bit about tort claims in relation to other firms would be helpful too.
- Can you list some reasons why a company might find itself in financial distress?
- Tell me about a deal you are familiar with.
- How does this particular restructuring group differ from other restructuring groups in the industry?
Intern
The interview process started with a superday, which was very technical. It covered a lot of ground, like the time value of money, accounting, and current news. If you passed that, you then had a behavioral round with two higher-ups, and that was the final step.
- Can you explain the time value of money?
- What are some key accounting concepts?
- What's happening in the news currently?
