First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Garena.
Management Associate
There were 5 rounds of interviews. The first round had assessment math/problem-solving questions and essay questions. The second round was more of a behavioral interview to understand your fit and commitment to the company. Overall, it wasn't too difficult, but you definitely need to prepare and have a strong interest in gaming.

They asked me to have over 50,000 followers and to play their crappy game. In the end, I told them I have 135,000 and they said they wouldn't give me more. They got really aggressive when I commented on the next steps. Especially the girl interviewing me seemed very aggressive, which I didn't like about the company. Halfway through, she started complaining about her boss not paying attention to her and was about to cry. I decided to take a break and hung up. Very, very uncomfortable interview.

Senior Backend Engineer
Applied in June and got an OA which I passed, then set up an HR call for early July but it got delayed because the HR person was sick. The call eventually happened and went fine, the HR rep was nice. An online technical interview was scheduled for later in July. It involved a Leetcode 224 Hard Basic Calculator problem and a deep dive into my resume. I never heard back or got a response to my emails afterwards, which was weird and unprofessional. It was kind of a bummer considering how great the company is.

Senior Product Manager
The interview process involved three main stages: an initial recruiter screen, followed by a meeting with the hiring team, and then a final interview with a director. I successfully passed the recruiter screen but unfortunately didn't get to meet the hiring team as I was subsequently ghosted. The initial screening with the recruiter lasted about an hour, after which I was expecting to proceed to the next steps with the hiring team. Despite proactively reaching out to the recruiter weekly for three weeks via LinkedIn for updates, and having what seemed like a candid conversation where I was assured they were working on scheduling the next round, this turned out to be misleading. The ghosting happened after discussing salary expectations, even though I explicitly stated my willingness to negotiate from my initial higher figure to something reasonable. It's perplexing how a salary decision could be made without a prior meeting with the hiring team to determine mutual fit. Typically, interviews I've experienced would at least include meeting the hiring team to assess compatibility. If a mutual fit is established, a salary figure is then proposed based on that meeting, reflecting a shared understanding of the required experience and expectations, leading to a sensible outcome. However, being seemingly ghosted and then rejected based on salary expectations, without any negotiation, and without meeting the hiring team, feels quite unreasonable. Most importantly, being ghosted is unprofessional, disrespectful, and unacceptable, invariably leaving a negative impression for any future applications, especially when there was genuine interest in the company.
