First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Garena.
Graphic Designer
Got contacted by HR pretty quick after applying, and they set up an interview for the next monday. They also let me know it'd be a 4-hour thing with an in-house test and interview. The test involved designing a landing page for a campaign and making basic wire-frames for connected pages, which took about 1-2 hours. Afterwards, the interviewer came back to discuss my design and then conduct the interview.
- Are you a player of any Garena games?
Graphic Designer
It started with an email on Monday, and I replied the next day. We scheduled an initial meeting for that Thursday, but I had to reschedule because I was out of town. We then set it for the following Thursday. I flew to Malaysia for the first interview with my superior, which was quite challenging. Right after presenting my portfolio, I had to complete a skill test on the spot. The second interview was a casual chat via Skype with the Head of Operations. The third interview was also a relaxed conversation, this time via Skype with the CEO of SG/MY.
- What do you aim to accomplish in this role?
Graphic Designer
They gave me a case study to do in 24 hours. After that, I had an HR interview with the head Graphic Designers on Google Meet, which was about 30 minutes. HR and the design leads were nice and asked about my past experience and technical skills. Then, they scheduled a user interview for a week later. The user asked technical questions about my portfolio projects and what I thought could be improved on their current/previous projects. It lasted about 20-30 minutes. I didn't like that they didn't ask which department had openings I was interested in. The user was decided from Garena even though I didn't qualify for the position because the design output was in another language I don't understand.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- What makes you want to work at Garena?
- Do you play games? If so, what genres and specific titles do you play?
