First, there was an HR screening, which was pretty standard. The recruiter explained the role and what they were looking for. It felt good and made a nice first impression. Then I had a technical interview with the Director, and it went really well. We had a good chat, technically it was sound, and I felt my experience was a good match. I left feeling pretty hopeful. But then things went downhill. I followed up a bunch, but heard nothing back from HR at all – not even a quick update or to say it wasn't going forward. It was odd, especially after the good technical chat. For a company like Dolby, the silence from HR was a bit of a letdown. It’s important to get back to people, good news or bad. So, while the Director interview was great, the silence afterwards from HR wasn't a great look for the hiring process.

Behavioral Technical

I applied in December and had my first interview about three weeks later. The initial screening went fine. About two and a half weeks after that, I spoke with the hiring manager. That interview seemed alright and focused on my experiences and college projects. The next week, I had two more interviews, each about 30 minutes. They asked about my experience, college assignments, and relevant skills. I never heard back after those last interviews. I followed up a week later for an update, but got no response. I followed up again two weeks after that, but was ignored again. It was disappointing to go through a 2-month interview process with several stages and get no closure. Clear communication, even if it's a rejection, is the least a candidate deserves after investing time and effort.

The interview process was quite smooth. I had four interviews in total, and none of them were technical. They were all behavioral interviews, and two of the four were pretty unstructured. The first interview was with HR, the second was with the hiring manager, and the last two interviews were with other people I'd be working with on adjacent teams.

I went through 7 interviews over 8 weeks. First was a quick recruiter screen on video, under 20 minutes. Then I interviewed with the hiring manager for about 45-60 minutes. It took the recruiter 2-3 weeks to get back to me, and they didn't respond to my questions about the timeline. After that, there was an interview panel with the whole marketing team over 3-4 days, sometimes with two interviews in one day. I met 5 team members in total. Then I waited another 3 weeks, sending two ignored follow-up emails. I wasn't updated on my application status, even after I mentioned I was a finalist for another leadership role. The recruiter specifically asked me to keep them informed about other interview outcomes.
