Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Dolby.
Embedded Engineer
The interview process was excessively long. They expect a lot of effort from applicants, with several interview rounds, including one that lasted over 3 hours. The overall length of the interview process was quite draining.
- Could you explain how to implement a buffer in C?
Embedded Software Engineer
A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn. After talking with them, I had a 1-hour phone interview. Two people from the team I was interviewing for conducted it. They asked about my background but mostly focused on a C programming test. I was given C code with subtle, memory-related errors and had to fix them. It was challenging, and I struggled with some errors.
- Can you write a program that checks the endianness of storage?
- Correct the errors in the given C code, paying close attention to memory usage.
- Tell me about your previous work experience.
Embedded Software Engineer
I had a phone screening with the manager. The background noise from the car was terrible, making it hard to hear most of what was asked. Then it turned into kids' noise, like they were picking up their children. It was a pretty bad and unprofessional experience. I wish they had asked to reschedule.
- Could you explain TS stream organization?
- What is the use of the volatile keyword?
- How would you describe the memory layout for a process using 4GB of virtual memory on a 32-bit Linux OS? (Google the layout :):))
