The interview process was pretty structured. It kicked off with a recruiter screen where I got a good sense of the role, its challenges and opportunities, the company culture, and the overall interview journey. Then, there were technical interviews focusing on my experience with data platform modernization challenges. A cultural round followed, checking how my past experiences and principles aligned with company values and how that might fit with this company's culture. The final stage involved meeting with the Senior Leadership team to assess my overall and strategic fit.

Behavioral Presentation

Jordan Frank, the recruiter at Credit Acceptance, managed a straightforward and organized interview process. He kept me informed and readily answered any questions, ensuring clear communication throughout. The team was open about the job's goals and what they expected, which helped me prepare effectively by allowing me to tailor my answers. It was a positive and well-arranged experience. For those interested, expect direct guidance from the recruiter and a panel that works collaboratively and focuses on goals. I can adjust the tone (more formal, shorter, or longer) or include specific examples from your work history if you'd like.

Behavioral

So I interviewed for the Marketing Area Manager job at Credit Acceptance. It was a bit of a letdown, honestly, and this wasn't my first time interviewing with them. The interview was pretty much all behavioral questions, like asking about bad employer experiences or tough customer interactions. I thought it would be more of a mix, but it felt really scripted and not personal. I tried to be concise, but maybe they wanted longer STAR answers. That's a heads-up for anyone else. What really threw me was the interviewer's setup on Zoom. It started late, and when she finally showed up, she was in sweats in a messy room with an unmade bed. Looked like she just woke up, which set a strange vibe. My background and sales wins didn't seem to matter much during the call. I'm usually a top performer, so I do well in interviews, but this one felt off. The energy was low, and it was all about ticking off behavioral boxes instead of learning about me or the role's specifics. For background, I've been connected with Credit Acceptance for like, ten years, having interviewed before in 2018 and being recruited in 2015. The process has always felt similar—impersonal and super standardized. This specific job seems to get posted every six months in my area, making me question if they actually fill it or if there are retention issues or unclear expectations. So, if you're interviewing with them, be ready for a structured behavioral interview, and practice STAR answers. Just don't expect it to be super engaging or personal.

Behavioral Technical

I applied on the website and a recruiter reached out pretty quickly for a chat. It was a good call and they answered my questions. Right after, they asked for my availability for the next step, which I sent. The next round was supposed to be a technical screen with the hiring manager, but it was honestly one of the worst interviews ever. The manager was late, seemed unprepared, and even said the role was like being a 'dictator'. They asked about technologies not in the job description and had expectations way different from the posting. They asked super open-ended questions but wanted specific answers, and when I asked for clarification on a hypothetical problem, they got mad my example wasn't exactly like Credit Acceptance's. They also complained about their own team's issues without taking responsibility. When I asked about the biggest challenge, they said 'company culture' and then tried to backtrack. They also claimed to be Agile but couldn't explain SAFe and their methods seemed like anti-patterns. I told the recruiter I was withdrawing, but they never responded. The same job is still listed over a month later.

Confirmed questions6 questions
  • Have you used any technologies that weren't mentioned in the job description?
  • Can you elaborate on your approach to solving this hypothetical scenario?
  • What do you see as the primary difficulty associated with this position?
