First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Covidien.
Instructional Designer
I got referred internally and found the job posting on the Medtronic site (they bought Covidien). I sent my resume Sunday night and got a call for an initial phone interview on Tuesday. The interview was Wednesday morning with HR. It went well and they said I was a great candidate and I'd hear about next steps the following week. After six weeks of no contact (I sent a check-in email and left a voicemail), I got an email saying they went with someone else. Apparently, the role was created for someone internally. I wish they'd been upfront about that during the first interview. I waited 6 weeks just to find out I never really had a shot.
- Do you want to manage people at some point in the future?
Business Analyst
The entire hiring process was quite demanding and tough, but it ended up being really worthwhile. I was impressed with how professional the recruiters and hiring manager were. The logistics were handled really well, especially since I had to fly in from another country for the in-person interviews in Prague. The interview rounds themselves were challenging but also quite engaging and enjoyable. Ultimately, the result of the whole experience was very satisfying.

- If you could alter something from a business perspective, what would it be?
- In what ways can your role contribute to the company's expansion?
Manufacturing Engineer
I applied online and after a few weeks, a recruiter reached out to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview focused on my resume, experience, and interest in the company. Later, the recruiter contacted me to arrange a Skype interview, but then there was a long silence. Eventually, the recruiter rescheduled the onsite interview at the facility. They changed the travel and interview dates multiple times, requiring me to take two flights which were paid for. The in-person interview felt like a standard behavioral and situational interview. A significant portion was taken up by one interviewer discussing his health issues. I also received a facility tour and was taken to lunch. It was a long day. I was told the recruiter would follow up, and a couple of days later, I got a generic email stating I didn't get the job. The lack of personal follow-up after the extensive travel felt quite insulting.
- Standard review of qualifications and resume during the phone interview.
- Situational questions during the in-person interview.
Event Coordinator
The interview process was handled quite fast and in an efficient way. I went through a 3 round process: 1. recruiter agency. 2. Phone interview. 3. Face to face interview. The quality of the whole process and interviewers was average. Questions were not very creative, more based to check up personality and language skills- check up with two native speakers. Three hypothetical problematic situations to solve. Technical background check up- excel file task- difficulty of the task- over average.
- How would you approach solving the hypothetical problematic situation?
- Demonstrate your technical background with an Excel file task of above-average difficulty.
