First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Civica.
Engineering Manager
Started with some emails and a 30-minute call to discuss the role, the company, and my background. It sounded really promising, making me even more interested in the company, especially how our values and their approach to work/life balance and the problems they're solving seem to align. Everything sounded great! But then, radio silence. No replies to my requests for feedback or follow-up, just an automated email saying my info was added to their database. Super disappointed, honestly. I can handle being a bad fit, but just ghosting candidates like this isn't cool and doesn't match how Civica presents itself and its values.
- Could you tell me about the sizes of the teams you've managed and the technology stacks involved?
- What experience do you have with project management methodologies like Scrum or Kanban?
Software Engineer
There were 4 rounds in total - First was a technical aptitude test, second a technical interview. The third round was a Managerial Interview, though I'm not sure if this happens as Civica doesn't have Portfolio Managers. The final round was an HR Interview for the final discussion.
- Can you explain Authentication?
- Can you explain Authorization?
- Can you explain 3 Tier Architecture?
Salesforce Developer
The technical interview for this role was handled by an external consulting firm, with the company's intention to bring the process in-house eventually through this position. The interview itself felt good – it was comprehensive, featuring many questions and a technical challenge at the end where I was asked to find errors and poor practices in some code. However, the experience concluded on a disappointing note, not due to a negative outcome, but because there was absolutely no feedback or explanation provided about the decision. While I get that this is unfortunately common in hiring, it's still really disrespectful to candidates who put a lot of time and effort into preparing for and going through these interviews. Giving constructive feedback isn't just professional, it also makes for a better candidate experience, no matter how it turns out.
- Given a code snippet, identify and explain the mistakes and bad practices within it.
Graduate Trainee
So the interview process for the on-campus hiring at your company was like three rounds. First, there was a coding round where you had to do a coding test. Then, the second round had 1 technical interviews, they asked a bunch of questions on different topics. And finally, the last round was the HR interview, which was all about your communication skills, if you'd fit in, and if you understood what the company is all about.
- Can you explain Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts such as inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, and abstraction?
- Regarding SQL, can you discuss writing queries, database concepts, and query optimization?
- What are your abilities in Coding Logics, including logical reasoning and problem-solving skills related to coding?
