Technical Coding Presentation Case

This was the worst interviewing experience I've ever had and I think it's important to share for the sake of others. I believe that a company's recruiting processes aligns with how they treat their internal employees. Overall, there was a complete lack of communication, human engagement, and follow-up throughout the process. In fact, I learned that they do not have an official HR department, employees don't have a direct manager, they have mentors. This makes sense considering that they have various team members who are not in people-centric roles coordinating interviews. It just seems chaotic. For instance, my first round and second round interviews were 6 months apart from each other! I had technical issues during the first round (it's also important to mention that they utilize one-way interviewing - again, completely lacking a human element) and then I did not hear a thing for 6 months. In fact, I forgot about this opportunity. They came back around out of nowhere (no HR lead managing the process, just employees) and wanted to proceed with round 2. I obliged mostly out of curiosity. Round 2 was with two peers: the first was fairly green in their career, the second had more emotional intelligence and was a more enjoyable conversation. I proceeded to round 3 (case study) and this did not go well. I didn't proceed in the process after round 3, which is completely fine. However, in following up to another random internal employee (again, no HR), I was met with complete silence.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • Regarding "interview difficulty", I would add not just difficult, but mostly confusing and disengaged.
  • First round: robotic one-way interview about 5 questions, horrible prepping through their software and technical issues.
  • Followed up with "HR" to let them know of sound issues - no response.

Case Presentation

Went through three interview rounds for this Senior Consultant role, but unfortunately didn't get the job. They mentioned a salary range of $120-130k and that the time commitment would be at least 60 hours a week. The process started with a screening interview, followed by two case interviews conducted over Zoom.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • A standard case-based consulting question was asked, requiring on-the-spot problem-solving.
  • Another case interview was given, with a 60-minute preparation window beforehand.

Technical Case Behavioral Presentation

This role had a three-part interview process. The first round was a recorded interview where I talked about myself and did a market sizing question. Round 2 was over Zoom and had two parts: a standard consulting case interview, and then a personal interview about my background and goals. Round 3 involved a mock presentation. An hour before a scheduled Zoom call, I received a prompt with spreadsheet data. I had to create a presentation in that hour and then present it over Zoom. What I really liked about Cicero interviews was that the interviewers in rounds 2 and 3 were very encouraging and helpful. Their feedback in real-time really helped me perform better.

Case Behavioral

The interview with Cicero was a really good experience overall. They gave me some interesting cases to work on and were really nice throughout. The first person I talked to was responsive and friendly, and they checked in to see if I needed anything. The only thing I wish could have happened was if we could have gone over the case at the end and if I could have gotten some feedback on my choices so I could learn from it and do better next time.
