Intern
Applied online with CV + transcript. A recruiter/HR reached out within ~1–3 weeks to confirm availability, preferred group/location, and basic fit (motivation, resume walkthrough, start/end dates). Round 1 (HR / screening call, 15–30 min): background, “why CICC / why this team,” internship timeline, language preference (Chinese/English), and basic behavioral questions. Round 2 (Team interview, 30–45 min): more in-depth resume drill + motivation. For finance roles, expect core technicals (accounting, valuation, markets), plus a few quick mental math questions. Interviewers also probed how I think under pressure and whether I can communicate clearly and concisely.
- What's your motivation for applying?
- Can you walk me through your resume?
- What are your start and end dates for the internship?
Investment Intern
The interview process included a self-introduction, basic 3-statement questions which weren't too hard, and behavioral questions about challenges and leadership. It was also CV-based, focusing on the Gen-AI industry given it was my last internship. I was asked to introduce the industry and explain how I researched it. They also inquired about any databases used in PE/VC research and how I would write a report to introduce a fund or a company.
- Can you start with a self-introduction?
- What are some basic questions about the three financial statements?
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenge or demonstrated leadership.
Investment Banking Analyst
So, there are two rounds of panel interviews, and each round has 3 interviewers. The first round is all about technical stuff like financial statements, valuation methods, and they'll really dig into your resume. The second round is more behavioral, asking about teamwork, your strengths and weaknesses, and if you're a good cultural fit. They mostly use Chinese Mandarin, but they might ask you to answer some questions in English.
- What happens to the three financial statements if depreciation is increased by 10%?
- How would the three statements be affected by a 10% increase in depreciation?
Equity Research Intern
The interview started with a self-introduction, then moved to in-depth questions about my previous internship experience. They also asked for my insights on the recent market trends and the driving factors behind them. I was asked to forecast the stock market and justify my predictions. We discussed my past research frameworks and their results. Financial modeling questions were also part of the discussion. Finally, they inquired about my availability for the internship.
- Can you describe your past research framework and the outcomes?
- What was the framework of your past research and what were the outcomes?
