Intern
The interview process was very focused on customer service skills. You should be prepared to answer questions using the STAR method for each answer. Brianna conducted a phone screening, and while she was very nice, some questions were unexpected. Be ready for many customer service scenarios. It's definitely worth taking notes because the first half of the call covers more specific details about the internship.
- Could you tell me why you're specifically interested in the branch network internship?
- Can you describe a time when you successfully sold a service or product, and explain how you gauged the customer's satisfaction with it?
- Tell me about an instance where you exceeded expectations to help someone.
Financial Services Representative
So first, I had to do this online application thingy with an assessment, it was all about money knowledge, how good I am with customers, and like, what I'd do in different situations. After that, a recruiter called me on the phone to screen me, asked about my background, why I wanted to work at Schwab, and some basic behavioral stuff. Then, I had a virtual interview with the hiring manager. This one had both behavioral questions - you know, about working with others, sorting out problems, and dealing with clients - and then some questions about what I'd do in specific financial service scenarios. The last bit was a panel interview with some of the team. They wanted to see how I communicate, how I'd deal with clients, and if I knew about Schwab's core values like trust and putting the client first.
- Could you please introduce yourself?
- Tell me about yourself?
Financial Services Representative
I applied on the website and got an email a week later to schedule a phone meeting. After that, about another week passed before I had an in-person interview with two people. They asked behavioral and STAR format questions, along with basic questions about my education and background. A week after that, I got a call with a job offer, which was conditional on passing a drug test and background check. I also had to get fingerprinted for compliance. The background check took around three weeks. They didn't test for THC on the drug test. After signing the offer letter, I started the SSA a week later. The entire process took about 6 weeks.
- Prepare for STAR format questions (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
- Look up common STAR format questions.
Financial Consultant
The interview process for the Financial Consultant Academy involves two interviews. First, you'll have a phone call with a talent acquisition specialist. Following that, there's a second interview with the branch manager. The whole experience is quite pleasant and moves along quickly.
- Be ready to discuss your understanding of the role.
- Be prepared to discuss your knowledge of Schwab as a company.
- Be prepared to discuss how Schwab operates.
