Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Charles Schwab.
Director
The process was pretty methodical and detailed. Expect about 4-5 rounds. Mostly technical expertise and details on solutioning, with some behavioral stuff for the management side.
- Can you describe a time you organized a team to tackle a new technical challenge?
Director
The interview process is focused on "situational" questions. They want to hear about times you had to do something specific, or discuss your problem-solving abilities and how you communicate. It's really important to have your stories and examples ready to go to do well in these interviews.
- Can you share an example of how you've influenced others?
Director
First, there was a phone screening with Talent Acquisition, which was pretty straightforward and included some behavioral questions. Then, I had a video interview with the hiring manager, and we had a good discussion. The next step was an in-person interview with the hiring manager and a future peer. The questions during the in-person were a bit tough, mostly because they weren't very well-defined and lacked context, which made me think they were testing my ability to handle ambiguity. I also noticed one of the interviewers seemed to be secretly recording me, which was quite strange and a bit unsettling.
- How do you handle situations where you need to influence others without having direct authority?
