The interview started with a casual introduction round, creating an open and appreciative exchange right from the beginning. This was followed by many challenging and interesting technical questions about the AI and Finance market, allowing for deeper discussions. It was great that there was enough time at the end to ask my own questions and gain further insights. Overall, it was a very professional, structured, and pleasant interview process with a relaxed atmosphere from the start.

I got this role through the sophomore opportunity summit, which I really recommend. The main interview day involved three 30-minute conversations with different people from the transaction banking teams. Everyone was really nice, and I got the sense they were mostly looking for someone who was personable and could speak with confidence.

So, I was contacted directly by senior HR folks for this senior HR role. We had an in-person meeting in Chennai with the HR Director and VP HR. After that, we had another talk. Then, for weeks, nothing. I messaged the HR Director, but no reply. Realized I was being ghosted. After all that time and effort, you'd think they'd at least give some feedback. For a senior role, in-person, and starting at this level, it felt like a total lack of ownership. No clear criteria, no feedback, no timely closing, just opaque decision-making, probably full of bias. It's a big governance problem, especially for senior HR hires. They talk about culture and treating people well, but this is a toxic way to treat candidates, from the HR Director and VP HR down to the hiring team in Chennai. My advice? If you're a senior person, be careful with in-person processes unless they clearly tell you who owns it, what the criteria are, and when it will close. For a company as big as BNP Paribas, the senior HR outreach needs to match the execution to keep their credibility and candidates' trust.

The interview started with a typical 'Tell me about yourself' question. Based on my intro, we then discussed Django, followed by a deep dive into Python, which was the main part. They really drilled down on Python core concepts: mutable vs immutable types, lambda functions, map/filter/reduce with examples, public/protected/private variables (and how they behave), @staticmethod vs @classmethod, == vs is, the GIL and multithreading, and using lists as dictionary keys. After Python, we moved to Pandas, covering loc vs iloc, apply vs map, and merge vs join. The last part was SQL, including different join types, self joins with examples, and stored procedures. It was a very technical interview, focused on understanding the fundamentals well, not just surface-level knowledge. Knowing Python basics, Pandas, and SQL concepts thoroughly is crucial.
