First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BMO US.
Executive Assistant
I first heard from the main recruiter by email on Jan 16 and we set up a virtual screening interview for Jan 21. I did well in the screening, so they set up a second virtual interview about two weeks later with the two execs I'd be working for, which happened on Feb 4. I got a verbal offer on Feb 6 and the official offer letter on Feb 9. The whole thing was super quick, professional, and organized. They kept me in the loop, and everything moved along nicely. Everyone was nice and respectful, which made it a good experience.
- Can you describe your background and administrative experience?
Marketing Coordinator
It started with a quick 15-minute chat with a recruiter who just gave an overview of the company and the role. Then, I had an interview with the hiring manager and another member of the marketing team. We talked about my past experiences and what I could bring to the table. It was a really relaxed interview. I got the job offer within 3 days after hearing back.
- Tell me about your marketing background and any tools or platforms you've used.
Business Analytics Specialist
Applied to BMO in early September, finished about a month later. Pretty standard process. First, a recruiter call, just screening questions to see if I fit. The recruiter was upfront about logistics, but a bit disorganized with role details, which was a little confusing. Then, I talked to the Hiring Manager. That wasn't too complicated either. They asked about my past work, some behavioral stuff, and to check if my technical skills matched what they needed. Had a good chat, but then radio silence for two weeks until I followed up. They ended up going with someone else. From the email, it seemed like they found someone willing to do it for less. I don't think these jobs are super hard to land, but the pay felt low for someone with my experience.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a difficult stakeholder?
- Describe a past situation involving a challenging stakeholder.
- Tell me about a time dealing with a difficult stakeholder.
Manager
I interviewed at BMO and the job posting was misleading about the salary and the team. The recruiter was too eager. I continued hoping to get accurate info from team members. It was disappointing. The job description may not be accurate. Transparency is key. I had 2 interviews. The people seemed nice but the culture wasn't a fit. The first manager seemed immature. The second senior manager was clued in but I ended the interview as I wasn't interested. It was more of a conversation, not an interrogation. Banks can be unsophisticated, I prefer working with top talent and professionalism.
- It was more of a conversation, not a typical interview with standard questions.
