Back in 2020, the interview had three parts: a chat over the phone, then a presentation you'd get 1-2 weeks to prepare for, and finally, a chat to see if you're a culture fit. The last two stages were held at the London offices. Now that it's BCGX, they probably follow the more standard BCG Classic interview steps.

The recruiting process was pretty structured and thorough, with several stages. First, I had a phone interview with a recruiter, then an interview with someone from the Strategic Design Cohort. A big part of it was the Strategic Design Challenge, where I had five days to prepare a solution, present it, and get feedback. The last part had two interviews with cross-functional teams and leadership. The recruiter kept me updated and gave feedback at every step. Overall, it was a well-organized experience.

First, I had a chat with the recruiter. Then came the take-home exercise, which was quite involved and needed a good amount of research, but they gave us ample time. After that, I was invited to their office in Los Angeles, which was super helpful since I don't live there. The onsite day had several interviews. The recruiter who was there was really nice, making things feel pretty relaxed. They really dug into our skills and what we could do. A big part of it was discussing the take-home exercise, especially the research, because they emphasized how crucial that is for their consulting work. I heard back about an offer not too long after the onsite. It was a great experience overall.

It was unfortunate that I was not moved to further rounds of the interview. As I always feared that BCG despite being great in consulting will not do justice when it comes to hiring for tech and product roles. In the past I have attended interviews at seasoned tech companies (i.e MS, Google, Intuit, Booking) and was moved to 3rd, 4th or final rounds in most of the cases. It was really a shock not to be evaluated for technical skills when hiring for technical roles. So, this was the first round which was a recruiter call and then a phone screen after which I was not selected.
