Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BCG Digital Ventures.
Experience Designer
I was first contacted by a recruiter, and they were really great throughout the entire process. The interviews included several phone calls with directors and VPs, not necessarily from the office I'd be working at. After passing those calls, I got a design challenge. I had 72 hours to solve a given problem, choosing from three options. I was told to focus on the design, and I felt good about my solution. My onsite interview involved presenting my solution to six people from different teams and roles. Then, I had one-on-one meetings with team members. Asking about the difference between experience designers and strategic designers was confusing. A few days later, I had a call where the feedback was that I needed to improve my presentation and research skills. I was put off by the 72 hours of unpaid work, especially since I was told to focus on design but then criticized for presentation and research.
- What's your motivation for joining BCG Digital Ventures?
Experience Designer
DV Berlin has a really thoughtful interview process that's super technical but also gets to know you as a person. Everyone was really nice. I went through 5 rounds: first an HR call, then a call with an experience designer, followed by a design challenge. After that, I had an in-person panel and 1-on-1s with about 4 senior employees, and finally met with an experience design director. They're really looking for talented people, so make sure your technical and presentation skills are solid.
- Could you discuss your design challenge?
- Do you have incredibly technical skills?
Lead Designer
I had a phone interview and then a portfolio interview. After that, I was given a task to complete. I presented the task and it went well. Unfortunately, I never received any feedback or follow-up. I sent three emails over four weeks, but got no response. It wasn't worth the 8 hours I spent on the task.
- Can you share your experience with the design process and leadership?
