First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Voleon.
Data Scientist
It was a lot of interviews, very thorough. Started with an initial interview, then 2 technical interviews, followed by 2 soft skill interviews focusing on project management and team management. The final interview was with the hiring manager. The tech interviews involved Python coding tasks, covering both algorithmic problems and practical data analysis and modeling. The practical part required a complete solution, from data preparation to finished model analysis, which was quite involved but doable within the given time. The soft skills interviews were fairly standard, usually combined into one, but here they were separate. I was told I was doing great throughout, but after all rounds, I waited a long time for a decision and was eventually declined.

Software Engineer
The interview involved some general questions about my resume and previous internship experiences, and then a LeetCode medium-level coding question. The interviewer was really nice, patient, and encouraging, which helped me feel good and confident. All in all, it was a pretty straightforward and really good interview.
- Can you walk me through your resume and discuss your past internship experiences?
Software Engineer
I went through a whole month of interviews, with 4 technical rounds and 3 behavioral/past experience chats. There was one system design interview, one Leetcode algo interview, a 2-hour coding interview focused on design, and another algorithm interview that was about coding a generic problem solver. They also required 3 references and transcripts before making a final decision. Despite being told I was the top candidate multiple times by the recruiter, I was ultimately rejected because of mixed feedback. Just a heads up, don't bother with this company unless you're really desperate, as none of the interviewers seemed enthusiastic about the company.
- A mix of questions, some from Leetcode and some not.
- Questions about coding a generic problem solver.

This was honestly the worst interview process ever. The person interviewing me was super disrespectful, showing up late and cutting me off constantly. The actual problems weren't difficult, but they were presented in a really vague, 'open-ended' way, so I had no clue what they actually wanted. It felt less like a problem-solving chat and more like they were just looking for reasons to criticize. Seriously, don't bother with this company until they get their act together and stop letting their bad employees take their frustrations out on candidates. They need a much more professional and respectful hiring process.
- Vague statistics questions that are meant to grill you.
