The whole thing took about 5 months. I did my onsite in early Jan and then had to chase recruiters for updates, sometimes without any response. Felt like they forgot about me. They made me do an extra interview, which I did and got good feedback on, but in the end, they couldn't find a team for me. It took 2 months after the onsite to get the rejection. I got feedback from the interviews and it felt like the expectations were higher than what's normal for a mid-level role, with some very specific feedback on minor things. They seem to want to be like FAANG but without the pay, equity, or good reviews. The company seems pretty disorganized.

So first I had an HR interview, then about a week later, I had an interview with the hiring manager. About another week after that, I had two technical interviews, then a panel interview, and then a culture fit interview, all like, back to back. Then I waited for 10 weeks, and HR kept telling me they were 'waiting for all the feedback to come in'. Finally, they let me go after I told them their third-party recruiters were contacting people for the same job I applied for.

I got asked pointer and array questions, all in C/C++. There were many 'leap-like' questions. One interviewer asked hardware questions, involving hardware equipment like oscilloscopes. The people were very friendly. I reached the final round, but they hired someone else.

So, there was one screener, then a high-level chat, followed by three interviews with other EMs, one with a PM, and a system design interview. That's SEVEN interviews in total. Honestly, it felt like a leftover from when they were part of Google, which is not a good thing, especially for a leadership role. They seemed to only care about quantitative data, which isn't a great way to judge a leader. I think I would have done better if I'd just listed keywords instead of actually talking about leadership. After all those hours of interviews, I just got a generic rejection email and no one responded when I asked for feedback.
