I talked to the hiring manager first, and then I interviewed with five other people. Three of them were PMs, one was an engineering leader, and one was a scientist. The panel questions were pretty standard for a PM, nothing too out there. The hiring manager interview was way more in-depth and focused on me and what I could bring to the role.

Case Behavioral

So the interview process was a total mess. I was initially recommended for hire after a Google interview, and then got connected with Verily. The Verily interviewer set up what they said would be an intro call just to talk about my background and product management experience. But surprise! It turned into a case interview instead. The interviewer was super cold, didn't even introduce themselves, and just jumped right into like 4-5 cases. I really felt like I nailed it though. The interviewer, even though they were a Googler and didn't have healthcare expertise, seemed to miss even the basic healthcare concepts. I told the recruiter about the confusion, and they took the blame and scheduled another interview. My second actual interview went great, and the interviewer seemed to know the healthcare industry. A week later, the recruiter told me they weren't moving forward. When I asked for feedback, they just said they couldn't share specifics because of Alphabet policy, and couldn't even say if the decision was based on the first or second interview.

Recruiter reached out to chat about a staff product manager position. They didn't really discuss my background. The recruiter then attempted to downlevel me to a senior product manager and get me to accept a salary $100k lower than my current pay for the same level at my company. What a joke.
