The professor chatted with me about my interests, when I could work over the summer, and my goals after I graduate. Then, we got into some technical questions about the field to see what I already knew and what I still needed to learn. It was a pretty relaxed chat overall.

Coding Behavioral

I had 2 interviews, one with the department head and another with a panel. There was also a take-home coding quiz covering PHP, SQL, and React. No live coding was involved. Everything seemed straightforward, and I'm unsure why I wasn't selected; perhaps there were more experienced candidates.

Behavioral Technical

I went through two interviews with a panel of three people each time. The first interview had team members, and the second had HR and senior folks from the department. Both times, about 95% of the questions were behavioral HR questions, and I was asked around eight questions in each interview. They didn't really dive into my experience or how my skills would fit the role, which I found a bit odd since they asked so many behavioral questions. They also didn't have the courtesy to email me about the rejection; I found out I was no longer being considered on the university career page after waiting about a month and a half. It seems they don't have much respect for a candidate's time.

  • Can you describe a situation where you collaborated on a work project and what the outcome was?
  • Have you mentored junior or less experienced colleagues? If yes, please share the results for both you and them.

Behavioral Other

I had a good first phone screening. When I scheduled the video interview, they didn't respond to my message asking who would be there and how many. I joined the video call to find 6 team members, which was a bit much at first. After the interview, I sent a thank you, waited a few weeks, then sent a follow-up email. No response. I saw on the job portal that I was no longer being considered, after getting a rejection for a different role. I sent a thank you email and asked for advice, but still no word back. It seems like some departments don't bother to tell you when you don't get the job, and this one, like others at Pitt, doesn't seem to think it's important.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Could you share an instance where you collaborated with a diverse group (however you define diversity), what insights you gained, and how you'd apply those learnings to foster a more equitable and inclusive study abroad experience?
