Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at University of Pittsburgh.
Graduate Student Researcher
It was a 30-45 minute zoom call with the PI. We talked about my research interests, any research I'd done before, and my analytical skills, like statistical software and data management stuff. No behavioral or situational questions.
- What are your research interests and what past research experience do you have?
Postdoctoral Researcher
I had a phone interview with my postdoc supervisor. We discussed my resume and some technical questions, which went well. Then, I spoke with various lab members, including MS and PhD candidates, a lab tech, and the lab manager, one by one. They were all very nice and friendly, and asked some easy questions. A couple of weeks later, I received the offer.
- Can you tell me about your technical experience?
Graduate Student Researcher
We got a really nice introduction to the coursework and research options! For my department/program specifically, we were shown around the campuses (Pitt/CMU) and given some ideas on where to live. We also met some current students to hear about what the PhD program is like.
- Can you describe your background in mathematics, statistics, or physics?
