There were a couple of initial phone calls, maybe one or two. These calls were partly to make sure you were okay with the salary. After that, there was a panel interview where they asked pretty standard, formulaic questions. It felt a bit difficult to have a real conversation because of it, and you definitely needed to prepare to handle those kinds of questions.

They provide the interview questions beforehand, so you can prepare. The process is smooth and takes about four weeks. The hiring team is friendly. The first round is a discussion with a search committee panel, and the second is a presentation to the whole team.

The interview weekend is packed, but it's a fantastic chance to connect with other students in the department and get a feel for the program and its vibe. The event spans three days: it kicks off with a welcome dinner, followed by a day packed with interviews that wrap up with a dinner involving all the faculty. The final day includes fun excursions with current grad students, topped off with dinner and a grad student party.

It was about 2 hours long, with a lot of questions. The interviewer talked for most of the time and went on tangents. They really wanted to know about your customer service skills and why this job is important to you. It's a really impactful and important job on campus, especially for serving the disabled community by driving them to class. You can learn directly from the people you serve about how the university isn't meeting their needs, but maybe don't say that part out loud. Instead, focus on your dedication to making their experience better as a student who doesn't get all the accommodations they deserve.
