United Nations Interview Questions
& Process

This was a comprehensive interview process. They asked a bunch of general questions about whether I'd be a good fit and why I wanted to work there, plus about my past experiences. We also talked about my university studies and any related skills or projects I'd done. They also inquired about my experience in diplomacy or with international organizations.

I applied for a UNV position in Kenya around late February 2025. The first step was a written test in early April, which was 120 minutes long. Then, in mid-April, I had an online oral interview that went okay even though my internet connection was acting up. I started working in early July. The competency-based interview was really focused on the Terms of Reference (TORs) from the job description.

super behaviroul qestions. they ask about how to deal with conflicts, team work, pressure etc. Basically nothing realted with hard skills. just apply more if you really want to do intern inside the UN. my personal expereince of the whole 6 month was super disappointing. my supervisor did not care me at all, the same for other interns. you can basically learn nothing here. it really depends on the team. and so many staff inside are worried they are gonna lose their jobs. it's realted with the special time, but also caz they can learn no hard skills inside also, even after working years.

So, I had one virtual interview, it was about 30-45 minutes long with the hiring manager for the role. It was a pretty chill conversation, even though it was structured, and they mostly wanted to hear about my background in marketing, comms, and analytics. They dug deep into what was on my resume, especially anything about running campaigns, getting people to engage, looking at data, and how digital stuff performed. I had to give examples of how I helped the team, how I reported on performance, and how I worked with other teams.
