Implementation Specialist
I was initially excited to interview with Tropic given their achievements, but the experience left me questioning how they operate internally. The process felt disorganized from the start. Instead of the typical recruiter screening, I was fast-tracked to a hiring manager interview without any initial conversation. This meant I had no opportunity to learn about the role, the company culture, or ask any preliminary questions—something that’s usually a crucial part of the hiring process. The interview with the hiring manager was scheduled for just 15 minutes, which felt rushed and inadequate for any meaningful discussion. It also became clear that there was a breakdown in internal communication, as the hiring manager assumed I had already spoken with the recruiter—when I hadn't. While I understand that startups move fast, this kind of approach to hiring raises concerns about how the company values and manages its people. If the candidate experience is this disorganized, it makes you wonder what the employee experience is like.

Account Manager
The interview process started with a recruiter screen and then included interviews with the hiring manager, and I thought there was going to be a final interview. Tropic recruited me directly and we were scheduling my final interview when they paused hiring and asked if we could pick it back up in March. I reached out again then, and they said they'd check with the hiring manager about the role since it had just re-opened. Then I got an automated email saying my application was denied. Considering how much time candidates put into interviews, an email with more info would've been nice since I made it all the way to the final round. Just a heads up for when you talk to Tropic's team and spend your time interviewing for a new role.
- Could you describe your approach to discussing upsell opportunities with a customer?
Account Executive
I talked to a recruiter first, and then the CRO. The recruiter was great and really efficient. The candidate portal gave tips on how to prepare for interviews, mostly suggesting the STAR method. But when I met the CRO, my prep wasn't helpful because he had a different approach. When I asked him about challenges for new hires, he got upset and went on a long explanation about how they work more than 40 hours a week and that people say they want the job but don't want to put in the time. While I appreciated the honesty, it conflicted with the company's claim of good work-life balance. Sales roles often have different perks than other departments, but the conversation felt off after he got so intense about the required hours.
- Could you tell me about the average size of deals you closed in your last position?
- What challenges do you foresee a new employee facing in this role?
Sales Operations Associate
A Talent Partner reached out on LinkedIn for an initial phone screen. After that went well, I spoke with the Director of Sales Ops. Then, I was given a take-home case study to complete and present to a panel of 3 people I would work with. Lastly, I had a video call with the Senior Director of Business Operations. The whole process was really smooth and approachable; the Talent Partner was great and very responsive, making scheduling easy. I enjoyed talking with everyone, and the case study gave me a good feel for the actual work. It took about a month from start to finish.
