First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thomas Cook.
Sales Associate
The interview process was fast-paced, starting with a recruiter call and then two interviews with the shop managers. There was a basic maths and English test, a role play where I had to cost a holiday from a brochure and sell the benefits of a hotel. Overall, it was a good, decent process.
- What skills can you bring to this role?
- Can you do a maths and english test?
- Can you cost a holiday from a brochure?
Travel Agent
It was easy, with scenario-based questions about selling holidays. They also asked about my strengths and weaknesses and a lot of general questions about me. There was only one round after I sent my CV. It was pretty straightforward and I got an offer soon after the interview.
- Tell me about your worst holiday ever, and now imagine you have to sell it as the best trip you’ve ever taken.
Customer Operations Team Leader
Applied in December 2023 and had an interview in mid-January 2024. There were 2 interview stages. The position was put on hold and the opening date was uncertain. I received an automated rejection from Indeed, which was confusing because it usually means I wasn't considered for an interview. I contacted the recruiter directly to inquire about the notification process. She mentioned 'in due course' but they should have informed me before Indeed sent the automated message. I was upset about the whole process, especially since I was made redundant and this is my livelihood. Companies should be sure about job postings before putting them out. The salary was lower than my previous role, but I was willing to consider it due to my circumstances. They mentioned hiring for multiple positions. The recruiter did not handle the outcome professionally or with care, making it seem like a minor issue. They need to improve their process.
- What are your strongest qualities that would benefit this position?
Sales
So, the interview process had 2 rounds in total. The manager started with a presentation where he mentioned he was looking for people for operations and sales roles, but would consider other profiles too if candidates were a good fit. He also mentioned that offer letters would be out by the end of the day. After the presentation, the first round was an aptitude test. Once we finished the test, we were called into a room for the next round with the HR. They went through our sheets, asking for self-introductions and a question. A few of us were shortlisted for the final round. In that face-to-face interview, I was asked if I was interested in sales and field sales. When I said no and mentioned my interest in operations, he said they were only looking for sales.
- Could you please introduce yourself?
- Are you interested in a career in sales or field sales?
- What field are you most interested in working in?
