We had a conversation about me, my experience, and then one whiteboard question. They really want to see if you're honest and can take feedback. It's important to be open to learning new things.
- Can you explain the difference between an inner join and an outer join?
Outside Sales Representative
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. It started with an online aptitude test, followed by a phone call. Then, an in-person appointment was scheduled at the Woburn office. I had a great interview with the manager there. It was very direct, focusing on the company's sales culture and the things important to me. They explained the timeline for getting out on the road after training. The interview was pleasant; the sales manager was clearly a seasoned salesperson. I was familiar with their products from a previous job, but there were new things to learn. The interview itself was great. When I asked about next steps, I was told I'd get an official offer by email. That's where the problem started. Four days later, I still hadn't received an email. I decided to follow up since I'd stopped my job search and canceled two other interviews. I tried to find the Woburn office's local number, but every number I found led to a sales call center, seemingly located down south. Each time I called, I asked how to reach the local office and was given numbers that also led to the call center. One employee did offer to pass a message to the sales manager, but I never got a call back. Even if I'd messed up the interview, I expected a notification. As a last resort, I found email addresses from my contacts, including recruiters and an interviewer. I sent one email to everyone, stating I had a great interview, hadn't received paperwork, and was just following up to ensure I hadn't misunderstood and to check for communication issues. I received no replies, which was frustrating as I really wanted the job. I liked the manager, the sales process, and felt we had an agreement at the end. This lack of communication cost me other interviews and potentially burned a bridge, as the company might think I never responded after a verbal acceptance.
- What choice of compensation did they offer?
- They offered two tiers of compensation: a base salary with a lower commission percentage, and a straight commission with no base and no draw but a more aggressive percentage rate. Can you explain the difference?
- Can you elaborate on the compensation structure, specifically the difference between a base salary with lower commission and a straight commission with a higher rate?

First, the company will review your application and resume. Then, the department team supervisor will interview you to check if you can drive and follow basic instructions. If they think you're someone they can take advantage of, you'll have a short meeting with the branch manager. They will set you up for a drug test. If you pass, they'll ask you to promise to bring a large (and full) bottle of water-based lubricant daily. If you agree to the low wage and to sell your soul, you get the job.
- Are you okay with working in environments that are dangerous, dirty, and austere?
Pest Control Technician
Applying to Terminix was pretty straightforward. After submitting my online application and completing a 30-minute assessment test, I got an email within a few days to set up a recruiter phone call. During this call, the recruiter went over the job details. A few days later, I was sent an email to schedule a video call with the branch manager for the Miami area. Two Terminix employees were on the video call. They kicked things off by asking about my previous experience working outdoors. While I explained that I enjoy being outside and can handle the heat and humidity, the interview seemed to wrap up after that.
- Have you worked outdoors previously in any past jobs?
