Outside Sales Representative
The hiring process was pretty straightforward. It started with an online aptitude test, followed by a phone call. Then, an in-person appointment was scheduled at the Woburn office. I had a great interview with the manager there. It was very direct, focusing on the company's sales culture and the things important to me. They explained the timeline for getting out on the road after training. The interview was pleasant; the sales manager was clearly a seasoned salesperson. I was familiar with their products from a previous job, but there were new things to learn. The interview itself was great. When I asked about next steps, I was told I'd get an official offer by email. That's where the problem started. Four days later, I still hadn't received an email. I decided to follow up since I'd stopped my job search and canceled two other interviews. I tried to find the Woburn office's local number, but every number I found led to a sales call center, seemingly located down south. Each time I called, I asked how to reach the local office and was given numbers that also led to the call center. One employee did offer to pass a message to the sales manager, but I never got a call back. Even if I'd messed up the interview, I expected a notification. As a last resort, I found email addresses from my contacts, including recruiters and an interviewer. I sent one email to everyone, stating I had a great interview, hadn't received paperwork, and was just following up to ensure I hadn't misunderstood and to check for communication issues. I received no replies, which was frustrating as I really wanted the job. I liked the manager, the sales process, and felt we had an agreement at the end. This lack of communication cost me other interviews and potentially burned a bridge, as the company might think I never responded after a verbal acceptance.
- What choice of compensation did they offer?
- They offered two tiers of compensation: a base salary with a lower commission percentage, and a straight commission with no base and no draw but a more aggressive percentage rate. Can you explain the difference?
- Can you elaborate on the compensation structure, specifically the difference between a base salary with lower commission and a straight commission with a higher rate?
Sales Representative
Had a good initial call with the recruiter where they explained the job and the hiring steps. I passed the sales test and had my first Zoom interview, which went well, leading to a second interview offer. Unfortunately, the manager didn't show up for the second Zoom interview. I contacted the recruiter, and she arranged to reschedule, promising quick follow-up. After several days with no word, I followed up again, and she mentioned sending an urgent message to the team. More days passed without contact, so I followed up once more. She then stated she was escalating to get the interview set up. Still no response, so I followed up with both her and the first interviewer. He confirmed I was a strong candidate. The recruiter then proposed interviewing for a different location than the one I applied for, which I accepted, and she said I'd hear back that day. I didn't. After a week and a half of further follow-ups, I received an email today stating I was not selected. I feel this is unfair given the process, especially the missed second interview and the subsequent lack of communication, despite my efforts to follow up and even agreeing to a different location. I believe I should have had the chance to complete the second interview since the original missed appointment wasn't my fault.
- Can you share transferable skills from your present job to this position?
Sales Professional
They do a few phone interviews and then they do a couple in person interviews. It is different at every branch, you might have two phone interviews one with a recruiter and one with the branch manager. Typically only one in-person interview which was my experience.
