The interview process for the Global HRBP role usually involves several steps. First, there's an initial HR screening where they check your background, international experience, and why you want to work for Tencent. After that, you'll have one or two interviews with senior HR leaders. These interviews focus on your HRBP skills, how you manage stakeholders, and your ability to work across different cultures.

Behavioral

The interview process involved an internationally based team. HR personnel were located in Malaysia and Hong Kong, while the three interviewers I spoke with were in the US and Singapore. The interviewers were friendly and asked straightforward questions focused on my background. A key challenge was conducting some interviews in Chinese, which is not my strongest language, though this was communicated upfront by HR and in the job description. Despite not getting the offer, it was a positive experience.

Technical Presentation

I passed a written test, and then only had one interview round before I was rejected. The first part of the interview was mostly about my portfolio, like how I used data to make design decisions and what research methods I used for class projects. At the end, there was a paper-based whiteboard exercise where I had to redesign the homepage for a Tencent mobile app. The interviewer really cared about how the user research logically flowed and how the product model looked visually.
