Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tencent.
Intern
The interview process involved 2 hours of calls, followed by 2 technical calls where I was asked quite hard fundamental computer science problems covering topics like hash maps, memory, and cache. They also included LeetCode hard problems and a general discussion about my understanding of different algorithms.
- Can you live code the edit distance problem?
Intern
I interviewed for an internship at Tencent, but the interviewer was not very engaged and the interview was scheduled very late. The interviewer didn't seem to care about my answers and kept interrupting me, so I couldn't really explain my skills. Also, the interview was set up with less than 24 hours' notice, and the interviewer claimed it was the only time they could do it, which messed up my schedule. If they really needed someone right away, they should have said so at the beginning, so I wouldn't waste my time on an interview that wouldn't lead to a quick job offer.
- Can you tell me about your knowledge of all Tencent products?
Intern
The interview process involved three stages: two technical rounds and one HR round. For this research intern position, the technical rounds will dive into your research interests, your previous research background, and any potential research topics you might want to work on. The HR round will cover standard personality-based questions.
- Tell me about your research interests.
- Can you describe your research background?
- What research topics are you considering working on?
