First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tencent.
Backend Developer
It was a pretty long interview process, like 4 or 5 rounds total. First up was a phone screen. They asked me textbook stuff, like they wanted me to just recite answers. I tried to answer based on my understanding, but the interviewer wasn't too happy. After that, there were three more tech interviews, and then a final HR interview.
- Can you explain the differences between epoll and select concerning IO multiplexing?
Backend Engineer Intern
Had two online interviews, with technical tests and quizzes about past projects, especially the technologies used. It was done on a Zoom-like app they developed. The role was for the Oceania region.
- Tell me about web protocols.
- How about database management?
- Can you discuss projects you've worked on before?
Backend Engineer
Started with a self-intro and then they asked about my resume. Then there were a bunch of theory questions, like the difference between a process and a thread. They also did live coding and asked about the space and time complexity of the code and how to optimize it. The interviewer also asked about the modules I had taken and what I learned in them.
- Can you tell me about your previous internship experience, including any challenges you encountered and how you resolved them?
- Explain the distinction between a process and a thread.
