First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Silicon Labs.
Communications Specialist
It started with a recruiter screen, then I talked to the hiring manager. After that, I had a two-day panel interview with five people from the department. During the interviews, one of the team members, who was doing the job before me, told me that "everyone is leaving" and "it is like a sinking ship, 40% of the company has turned over." They also mentioned that the work is "easy but very laid back, everyone is very chill" and they just wanted to "warn you if you join." This felt suspicious, like they were trying to make me not want to join. After this conversation, the recruiter stopped responding to my emails and I haven't received any updates about the position or my application status. This is the first time I've reached the final round and had absolutely no communication. Something feels off at Silicon Labs.
- Can you describe your experience communicating with large groups?
Engineer
Applied on their website and had a chat with the recruiter, then a virtual meeting with the team manager/engineer. The job posting mentioned a lot of skills, but they actually only needed deep knowledge in one specific area. They mentioned the job wouldn't involve any design, which felt like a bad sign for it being interesting. I asked about how the business was doing financially, given they lost money 4 out of the last 5 years, but the interviewer didn't seem to care much, saying the benefits were good enough. This also felt like a red flag for company stability. After the interview, they ghosted me and kept my application status as 'in progress' for over a month. It felt disrespectful and showed a lot of bad signs, so I'd avoid this place if you want a stable career with growth opportunities.
- Can you tell me about your technical expertise within a specific area of your field?
Relational Engineer
The HR was too ego when follow up with you for second interview and keep asking you to drop your application. Pls take note they never share that 2nd interview need at least 3 hours continously interviewed by 5 hiring mgr. The process is too complicated and keep changing. I knew I was called for interview after a month you message me as spare part tyre if you really not able to hire new candidate. Overall I am really bad impression with HR where they are too ego, talk to you like your are "low level" candidate, you will feel hr look down on you. Thumb down for silicon HR recruitment centre. Compare with Texas Instruments and Infineon Technologies, the hr is super humble and keep find the best way for win win situation instead ask you drop application (more than 3 times mentioned in chat) if you cannot accommodate with their need.
- Have you set up machines before?
Embedded Software Engineer Intern
I cold applied and the recruiter set up two 1-hour technical interviews. After those, I got an offer. The whole process was super quick, less than 2 weeks from the technical interviews to the decision. There weren't any rounds that were just behavioral questions, and no online assessments either. The first technical interview involved talking about my background, a bit of light behavioral stuff, and then mostly conceptual technical questions. They showed me a C code snippet in a Google Doc that had a bunch of bugs and I had to fix it (didn't need to compile it). The second interview was a coding problem in C about interrupts. Again, I didn't have to get it running, it was just to check my knowledge and how I communicate. They threw in some light behavioral questions here and there too. Looking back, it's kinda funny because I only got about half the questions right. There was a lot of stuff I should have studied beforehand but didn't.
- Can you explain the meanings of the volatile, const, and static keywords in C, and in what scenario a variable might be both const and volatile?
- How would you debug embedded software if you couldn't print to a terminal?
- What is an ISR?
