The interview happened online via MS Teams with the hiring manager and team supervisor. They asked some basic questions about my background and then discussed the role. They mentioned a decision would be made by the end of the next week, but I never got an update. I emailed them for an update but got no response, and finally heard back after 3 weeks. It felt unprofessional not to follow through on their word.

I applied online and got a call back pretty quickly, maybe within a week. The first step was a phone screen, then I went in person to meet the Store Manager and the District Manager. They asked me about my leadership experience, how I approach customer service, and if I can handle working in a busy place. The whole thing took about 45 minutes, and I heard back with an offer a few days later.

The process was very straightforward. It started with a coding assessment, which for me was focused on SQL. Following that, I had a typical video interview with the HR recruiter. They were very pleasant and asked relatively simple questions, mainly about my technical skills and some behavioral aspects. The next stage involved the hiring manager and a lead developer. The questions were not very technical, leaning more towards behavioral and experience-based inquiries. The final round was with the hiring manager and two team members, where we primarily discussed my resume and other behavioral questions. Overall, it was a very easy and enjoyable experience.

Behavioral Technical

So, the job description said no experience needed, but that wasn't true during the interviews. It started with a 20-minute recruiter screen, then a 1.5-hour behavioral interview with someone who wasn't a programmer. They were really late throughout the whole process; there was a week delay and then 20 minutes waiting for someone to actually join the call. The first person scheduled just didn't show up, and the second person was late. The company talks a lot about being a 'family,' and they brought up on-call duties during the interview, which wasn't in the job description. Also, it seems like they have a slow-moving culture that supports corporate ladders, with one type of person dominating the teams, so decisions will be slow. Your career in tech would probably go to die here unless you enjoy living meek in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. The salary offer of $65k/year was also concerning, about 20% below average, although they did mention profit sharing bringing it up to $70k/year. This salary hasn't changed since 2021, based on talking to previous applicants who rejected offers. Check out www.Levels.fyi to see what you're actually worth. Even though the people were nice, the whole process made me question the transparency, whether interviewers' backgrounds actually matched the role, their punctuality, the 'family' culture focus, the on-call responsibilities, and the pay.
