Digital Marketing Manager
I started with a screening call from a third-party recruiter, where I talked about my background and answered some questions. A week later, the recruiter called again for more screening questions. After that, I had my first interview, a video call with the hiring manager. It was pretty standard. The second round felt off. The recruiter told me the hiring manager wanted a quick chat before a 'personality test,' which seemed unusual. During the chat, they asked for my GPA and college transcripts, which I thought was weird given my experience. I did the test, which had math and problem-solving questions unrelated to marketing, plus a short personality quiz. They told me it was just procedural, but it wasn't. Then, they had me fill out a paper application asking for my Social Security number, old addresses, and other personal info, likely for a background check. A week later, I got a text from the recruiter saying the hiring manager wasn't moving forward because my test results weren't what they wanted, saying I lacked 'quick thinking skills.' I feel like I avoided a bad situation.
- Can you walk me through your background and experience?
ASM Manager
It took some time to hear back after applying, but the people were friendly and the process felt pretty straightforward. The office space was nice and they had a good selection of brands. The questions weren't super deep, so I don't think they got a great sense of who I am.
- Why did you choose Sewell?
Intern
After applying on campus, the hiring process has 3 parts. First, there's a 1-on-1 interview on campus. Building a connection with the interviewer is key here; if you can't have a smooth conversation like you're becoming good friends, you won't move on. Also, think of a unique question to ask them so they remember you. If you pass, you'll get invited to a Personality/Aptitude test. They say you can't prep for it, but that's false. Take practice aptitude tests online to get an edge. The Sewell Aptitude test has 3 sections: Numerical Reasoning (Patterns), Mathematical Reasoning (easy math word problems), and Verbal Reasoning (True, False, Not enough information). For the personality test, answer with what you think the company looks for, not necessarily honestly, as that might prevent you from moving on. You'll also answer yes or no to 60 occupations; again, consider the personalities of people in those jobs when answering. If you score high enough on the aptitude test and answer the personality test correctly, you reach the final stage. This is the most intense part. They're invested in you now, and it's your job to seal the deal. I interviewed with 6 managers 1-on-1 for about 3 hours. Be high-energy and don't look tired; they want to see if you can maintain your energy. Be on time and wear full formal. Maintain eye contact and sit up straight to look like you belong. They respond quickly between steps, usually 2-3 days or sooner.
- Would you prefer your employer to reward you based on outcomes or the effort you put in?
Sales Associate
My interview experience at Sewell was tough but ultimately worth it. It felt very thorough, which gave me a good sense of the company. A friend referred me. First, I had an interview with 3 sales managers. A week later, I was called back for a personality and aptitude test. Another week passed before I had another interview with a different sales manager. After a few weeks, I had my final interview with the General Manager. The next day, I got the job offer. The whole process took about 6 weeks. They really take their time to ensure a good fit.
