First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Schwan's Company.
Sales Manager
It was a pretty easy and straightforward process. Had a couple of virtual interviews and then met the team in person. They asked both technical and behavioral questions. The team was nice. Very corporate setting. It was an average interview process, easy if you’re prepared with scenarios.
- Can you tell me about your background and what you're seeking in this role?
Senior Food Scientist
I went through a few interviews for a Senior Food Scientist role at Schwan's Company. It started with a chat with a recruiter, then I talked to the hiring manager, and finally, there was a panel interview with the director and VP. I get why they didn't pick me, especially since behavioral questions aren't really my thing, but I'm pretty bummed out about how the HR team handled things. I put in a lot of time, and then heard nothing back for more than three weeks, even after I emailed the recruiter twice. I finally got a basic rejection email, which felt pretty impersonal. When a company asks for a big commitment, I think it's fair to expect them to keep you updated and at least send a personal reply. The silence and the generic email really gave me a bad impression of their HR process.
- What is motivating your decision to leave your present employment?
Project Engineer
I went through four video interviews that were poorly scheduled. They invited me on-site after the third interview, but it seems they had already decided not to offer me the job after the fourth interview, yet they still kept the on-site schedule. This was a waste of my time traveling and interviewing for a role I was no longer being considered for. I only found this out after an external recruiter asked why I wasn't offered the job post on-site. The initial feedback didn't make sense and referred to job changes mentioned on my resume and discussed during the video interviews. In a two-week span, I had three other interviews to travel for, and I would have preferred not to use two days of my PTO on this. I found the whole process to be handled very unprofessionally.
- Can you explain your reasons for changing jobs?
Sales Representative
I went through one in-person interview and then a full-day ride-along interview. They let me know they decided to go with other people. When I asked for feedback on how to be a better candidate for the future, they said I was decent overall but that maybe I shouldn't wear sunglasses. They asked me to remove my sunglasses for the drive day and leave them in the truck for the remainder of the day. This feedback feels strange. I inquired if reapplying in the future would be beneficial, and they said no. Considering my 4 years of experience driving for work, interacting with customers, and sales, I'm baffled by what I did wrong that would make them prefer I never apply again. Most companies usually suggest 'more experience, come back in 6 months, a year, etc.' My driving history is clear, and they didn't even conduct a drug test or background check (which are also clear). It's a total mystery why wearing sunglasses was so damaging to my application, especially since it wasn't mentioned upfront and I complied when instructed. It feels like an excuse for something else, but it's their loss, I guess. It might also be that I was overqualified with an Associate's and Bachelor's degree when the job only required a High School diploma.

- Could you elaborate on your sales strategy?
