First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Root Inc..
Data Analyst Intern
It started with an HR call where they asked standard questions and also wanted me to talk about a passion of mine. After that, there was a behavioral interview with the hiring manager, followed by a case study/technical part, though I didn't make it that far.
- Can you share a story about something you're really passionate about?
Data Scientist
Had a recruiter call, then an interview with a data scientist where we talked about general data science knowledge and broader statistics concepts. After that, there was a live coding session with a case study done in a Jupyter notebook, and GenAI was allowed. The whole thing took about 4 hours of work and interview time.
- What motivates you to want to work at Root?
Product Analyst
First, I had an interview with the hiring manager. After that, I went through an online technical interview. The technical interview itself was quite manageable; two interviewers observed my data analysis process and how I reasoned through my conclusions. I actually finished it in half the time that was allocated. The interviewers confirmed I had answered all the questions correctly and mentioned they wouldn't have done anything differently. Unfortunately, I didn't receive an offer, and the company never followed up with me.
- Can you tell me about your experience in the insurance industry?
Claims Adjuster
I had an initial call with a recruiter and then spoke with two hiring managers. After that, they ghosted me, and I never heard back even after following up. It's strange because I know someone else who experienced the exact same thing. Both of us had our salary expectations at the high end of the range, given our experience exceeded the job posting's requirements. However, we heard about someone who was offered the position with less experience than the minimum stated. This makes me wonder if they're hesitant to pay top dollar or if that individual is just a much better interviewee. Regardless, it's an odd coincidence. A simple automated rejection email would be appreciated rather than leaving candidates in limbo after they've invested time in multiple interviews.
- Can you explain your process for handling coverage investigations?
