First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at QIAGEN.
Intern
The interview was good for testing problem-solving, throwing curveballs to see how I'd react and adapt. They wanted to check my analysis, creativity, and how I handle pressure. The interviewer was professional, making it tough but fair. I felt good about the problems, using logic and staying chill, even though some were super hard and made me think fast. It was a solid test of how I deal with the unknown and stress.
- When presented with a new, unfamiliar device during the interview, what potential issues or problems would you anticipate it might encounter?
Packaging Engineer
The interview process was quite respectful and not too long, consisting of just two one-hour interviews. The first one was with HR and the Hiring Manager, followed by a second interview with upper management. They were understanding that I was an international candidate and accommodated the second interview online instead of requiring an onsite visit.
- Can you share an example of a challenge you've encountered in your previous roles?
- What would be your approach to a given situation concerning packaging?
- Could you elaborate on your prior work in packaging engineering?
Marketing Support Manager
I'm sharing my experience after my offer was rescinded. I went through three interview rounds. The first was with the hiring manager, not HR. The second interview, which was rescheduled because HR missed the first meeting, was with the hiring manager and HR. I'm not sure why I had a second interview with the hiring manager; it felt like another chance for her to interrogate me with seemingly irrelevant questions. But surprisingly, I was invited for a third interview with two team members, one of whom implied I'd be bored in the role given my past experience. After all that, the HR manager 'offered' me the job and we discussed compensation. We agreed, and I was assured a written offer within a week. A week passed, still no offer. So I emailed the HR person directly. Two days later, a different HR person sent a generic email stating the position was under re-evaluation and they couldn't proceed with my application. Convenient timing for it to be reevaluated after they offered it to me. The HR person I spoke with and emailed didn't even have the courtesy to inform me directly! This company clearly doesn't value or respect potential employees. The entire process was a waste of my time, and I will never apply or recommend anyone else apply here.
- Could you describe the product marketing work you've been involved in?
- Were there any parts of the job description that stood out to you?
- What do you foresee as the biggest obstacle upon starting this role?
Genomic Services Project Manager
The position was reopened in May 2022, which makes me wonder why QIAGEN couldn't find anyone. Application was submitted Jan 19th, deadline Jan 31st. An interview with the hiring manager (Director of Genomics Facility) was held on March 8th, after an invitation on Feb 25th. The interview ended with a promise to hear back in "some weeks," followed by silence. An email inquiring about the status on April 29th resulted in a desk rejection on May 2nd with generic feedback. The feedback stated that other candidates' backgrounds were a closer match, despite the applicant's impressive skill set. This poor HR service and ghosting is disappointing.
- How do you handle stress?
- How do you cope with end-of-season pressure to meet company goals?
- What's your approach to resolving client conflicts?
