Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at QIAGEN.
Management Trainee
At Qiagen AG in Hilden, I participated in an assessment center. It included good questions and respectful feedback, which was very helpful. The process involved a role-playing exercise, an interview with the CFO, an interview with functional management, a group task, and a discussion with current trainees.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Manager
After they got my resume, they reached out to see if I was still looking for a job. When I said yes, I was invited for an in-person interview with only 48 hours' notice. During the interview, the senior manager seemed uninterested in my answers and mostly focused on disagreeing with everything I said. By the end, they suggested I look for sales rep roles, even though I was interviewing for a management position with significant experience and qualifications. Despite this, I was still scheduled for an HR phone interview. I waited at the scheduled time but received no call. I tried contacting HR multiple times via phone and voicemail with no response. Five days later, the same senior manager called to say I didn't get the job. I asked for feedback via email and voicemail but got no reply. They could have at least told me they canceled the HR interview instead of making me wait. Qiagen's handling of this was unprofessional. The senior manager also showed a lack of respect for me, my qualifications, and my experience. I felt they were trying to imply that because they had a hard time, everyone else should too. I question if it's worth working for such managers, even if offered the job.

The interviews were all video calls. There were four calls in total: one with the hiring manager, one with a current employee, one with the Sales VP, and one with HR.
