First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Qantas.
Analytics Engineer
It took 4 months. I did an initial phone screen, then a take-home technical assignment that I had 5 days to complete. Then I had an in-person technical interview with a stakeholder, followed by an in-person behavioural interview with stakeholders. After that, I had a second behavioural interview online with a stakeholder, and finally a technical + behavioural interview with a stakeholder. They said my communication skills weren't a fit despite my technical skills. The interview panels and hiring managers were professional, and HR was supportive. It took three separate behavioural interviews to decide I wasn't a fit communication-wise, even though communication is really important and requires meeting stakeholders separately. I had to take three days off for the in-person interviews and didn't get an offer.
- Can you share an instance of handling a challenging stakeholder?
Talent Acquisition Specialist
I applied for the Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist role and then got a message on LinkedIn from the TA Manager to re-apply because of system issues. I did that, and right after they saw my message and profile, I got an automated rejection email. It's annoying to fix their system problems and then get a generic rejection. The candidate experience is messy. Match your outreach with your ATS. If you ask someone to re-apply because of your system error, treat their submission with personal respect, not a generic form letter.

Digital Content Manager
I interviewed for a contract role at Qantas, specifically to cover maternity leave. The first virtual interview seemed to go well, and they said I'd hear back in about a week about next steps or a second interview. But, I never heard anything. I reached out to the Talent Acquisition Manager after a week, but still no reply. I got totally ghosted. Also, my research shows Qantas' salaries for senior contract roles might be a bit low compared to the market right now. To get good people, they should probably check if their pay is competitive. So, while the interview itself was okay, the lack of follow-up was really disappointing and not very professional. People looking at senior contract jobs there should definitely check salaries first.
- Can you share an instance where you faced an unexpected shift in plans and describe how you handled it?
Cabin Crew
I applied online and then had to complete a questionnaire with no time limit, which I had 3 days to finish. After that, I was invited to an online group assessment where we were split into groups for fun activities, likely to observe teamwork. Then came a "Panel interview day" with other applicants. They checked heights, gave a company intro, and then individually checked our documents (professional photos, passport, first aid, birth certificate, etc.). Before the interview day, references and a ministry of justice background check were done. We waited to be called for interviews. The interview itself was very casual, like a friendly chat, with only 4 behavioral and 1 situational question, conducted by a Senior FA and a recruiter. After the interview, they mentioned that all paperwork and notes would go to a board of trustees for a full application review, not just the interview. I was called two days later for a medical test before an offer, but I declined due to low pay.
- Can you share an instance where you experienced conflict with a colleague and describe how you resolved it?
- Describe a situation where you provided exceptional customer service.
