I submitted an application online and then heard back from a recruiter. She seemed interested in speaking with me and asked for times that worked for a meeting. She didn't respond to my emails after I sent a few. Eventually, she got back in touch, apologizing for the emails she missed. We had a good phone call, and she said she'd let me know about the next steps. But then, nothing – I was completely ghosted. The whole process felt very unorganized and chaotic.

I was a summer intern and the interview process was very relaxed and fairly easy. They ask you the basic standard interview questions and if you're a hardworking student journalist worth your salt you'll be able to breeze through them. It does help to study their coverage and to also make sure that you know what you're talking about. I had two rounds before I got the offer. Study the standard interview questions, be able to explain your reporting process and you'll be fine. Never felt that nervous interviewing.

When I enquired about the job, I was asked about my flexibility for working from the office and salary expectations, even though the job description lacked specifics. Later, I received an email stating I'd need to work from the office more than advertised, despite there being no marketing team in London. My personal reason for requesting specific remote work days was denied, which felt discriminatory. Two months on, the role is still being advertised. It's understandable why people might not want to be in the office four days a week without a local team, especially when the team is based in Belgium.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

Recruiter reached out about my resume for a Benefits Manager role. I had a 30-min phone interview with a future teammate, which went well. Then, I had an hour-long Teams interview with the hiring manager, which also went well. The final round was in-person with the Total Rewards team. It seemed to go very well, and they said they'd decide in 2 business days. After three follow-ups, I was ghosted and told they were holding off on an offer due to future team changes. It felt disrespectful given they initiated contact.
