I was a summer intern and the interview process was very relaxed and fairly easy. They ask you the basic standard interview questions and if you're a hardworking student journalist worth your salt you'll be able to breeze through them. It does help to study their coverage and to also make sure that you know what you're talking about. I had two rounds before I got the offer. Study the standard interview questions, be able to explain your reporting process and you'll be fine. Never felt that nervous interviewing.

The interview process felt a bit formal and rigid. They didn't seem very open to candidates with diverse backgrounds or experiences. I also got the impression they were unhappy I don't live in Washington, D.C.

Got contacted pretty fast. Once I got to the offices, they showed me around. The two people who interviewed me were super nice and funny. My first interview after the phone screen was with a newsroom editor in a lounge. They mainly wanted to see how much experience I have with journalism. The second interview was with the person I'd be working with, and it was a bit more specific, but still fun.
