Behavioral Technical

I talked with Julie at Pella for the Associate Data Scientist job. We chatted about what I know about the company, technical stuff like optimization modeling and classification algorithms, and my problem-solving skills. I gave examples but maybe could have used better ones, especially for supply chain. We also touched on salary ideas, my grasp of the role, and what I'm looking for in a job, like learning opportunities and diverse industry experience. I confirmed I'm good with remote work and pointed out my strengths like being detail-oriented and knowing cloud tech. Julie mentioned it's a competitive process and to apply on the website.

Behavioral

This was one of the most disappointing interview experiences I've had. The interview process felt unprofessional and lacked transparency. There was a noticeable lack of communication post-interview; after I sent a thank-you email, I received no acknowledgment or information about the next steps. When I followed up a few weeks later, the response I received felt dismissive and unprofessional. Additionally, there was no mention of the pay package range in the job description, which led to a surprising and disappointing offer during the interview, far below industry standards given my qualifications and the standard within the industry for similar roles. Based on this experience, I would advise potential candidates to carefully consider whether this environment aligns with their career goals and values. I wouldn't recommend experienced professionals to even consider reading the JD's coz it would be a sheer waste of time.

Applied through a recruiter and then got invited to a panel interview a week later. Two people from the team (one from CS and one from Ops) led the interview. My resume showed I had skills from a different industry, but the panel seemed to really focus on my weak spots and differences in workflow. They read questions from a list, so it didn't feel very natural, and I didn't get much chance to talk about my strengths. Some of the reactions and faces made when I answered made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. It wasn't a conversation at all, and I felt like I wasted my time prepping. I think they should update the job description to show they really want someone more experienced than what they advertised.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process included a tour of the facilities and town, then two rounds of panel interviews with four people each, followed by a one-on-one with the department director. It was a well-organized and lengthy process. The interviews involved discussing my resume, using the STAR method, and explaining how I'd handle a current departmental issue. One panel member seemed doubtful about my qualifications. The final one-on-one felt informal and like a formality, as I suspected the decision was already made. I found out I wasn't selected two weeks later.
