First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pella.
Sales Representative
It was a 3 step process. First, HR called me for a phone interview. Then I had a 45-minute face to face "coffee shop" interview with the sales manager. After that, HR called the same day to set up a board interview with the owner and 3 managers, which lasted about an hour. Kind of overkill to sell windows for a living, if you ask me. I have 10 years of experience in home improvement sales, so I was a bit shocked I didn't get an offer. My guess is they wanted someone with a college degree, but I'll never know since Pella won't respond to my emails.

Sales Representative
The hiring process is complex and very thorough, I went through several rounds of evaluation all of which culminated to a group interview that invloved 5 Pella employees looking to see how I was able to answer questions in a rapid fire situation. It sounds intimadating and it was! Their questions involved scenario topics, like what would you do in this situation, they probe for ethical and moral fiber. An applicant should research the history of the company and be able to give a brief description of the company and its mission. The manager will also ask the general question, why do you want to work for Pella, what do you think you have to offer, whats your biggest weakness, your best strength etc. One should look to have a decent background in the construction field, that would make them look much more attractive.
- What is your contribution?
- What do you bring to the table?
Sales Representative
The hiring manager just called without emailing first to set up the interview, which felt off. I had to reschedule and ended up interviewing about a week later. They mentioned that many reps leave within a few months, which was another red flag. Then they discussed compensation: 60k-65k starting, with 1% commission for the first 6 months, then up to 3% after that, depending on discounts offered. I was also told that reps don't know the costs or profit margins of what they're selling. I got a second interview, but when the interviewer called out of the blue again, I decided this company didn't value its employees or prospects. Given my experience with commission structures, I couldn't proceed and withdrew my application. Reps should have transparency into costs and profits.
- Can you tell me about your most significant sales accomplishment?
