Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pella.
Intern
The interviewer seemed skeptical, defensive, and critical. They focused heavily on a brief summer job I had, asking for extensive details about my experience in that short-term role. Although the interviewer was friendly, they came across as somewhat cold and unempathetic during the conversation.
- What kind of jobs did you have in high school?
- Can you discuss your experience in that short-term role in more detail?
IT Intern
Since my school was far from Pella, IA, we did a WebEx interview (it's like Skype). The interview experience was pretty good. I wasn't sure if they'd ask generic interview questions or ones specific to the role. It turned out to be the usual questions, like 'What are your three weaknesses?' and 'What are your strengths?'. So, definitely brush up on your major or the role you're applying for before going in. I'd also suggest making a little study guide with common interview questions and your answers. You don't need to memorize them, but having prepared answers will help you respond quicker since you've already thought about them. I think this really helped me get the internship because I was ready for every question they threw at me with a solid answer, instead of fumbling. One last thing: ASK QUESTIONS. When they ask if you have any, definitely ask some! It shows you're interested in the company.
- What questions would you have liked us to ask you?
- Do you have any questions for us?
- Tell me about a time in a group project where someone wasn't pulling their weight and how you addressed it.
Intern
It began with a phone interview with a group of interviewers, and then I was invited for a second interview at the office. The people interviewing me were really friendly and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. The Pella location is super clean and has a great atmosphere among the staff.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- What are your long-term career goals for the next decade?
